Xhosa baskets can handle quite a lot of water, as long as they are allowed to dry out completely. Baskets can be scrubbed with warm soapy water. Palm baskets must be wiped with a damp cloth. Excessive water will leave stains. Prolonged damp conditions will cause mould to form. If your basket ever gets squashed or then you will need to wet the baskets and reshape them. This can be achieved by using water spray bottle and lightly wetting the basket, before re-turning to its proper shape.
